Professional Career

Visual artist living in Strasbourg since 1985, Jaime Olivares was born in Spain where he learnt the basics of painting and drawing in art school and with his father, a painter. He completed his theoretical and plastic training in Strasbourg at the University Faculty of Arts (DEA in 1991) and trained in engraving at the Ecole Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs de Strasbourg (now HEAR).
Since then, he has been actively painting and regularly exhibits in group and solo exhibitions in France, Germany, Spain, Ecuador, South Korea, Czech Republic, etc.
Public and private institutions have acquired his works as well as numerous collectors in several countries. He creates murals, scenographies, posters, various graphic documents and has won several prizes and commissions.

Artistic approach

Jaime Olivares leads a pictorial reflection around the subjective representation of the living.
His paintings evoke chimerical universes composed of human bodies, fruits, leaves, stems, flowers, real or mythical characters, or fascinating animals.
In a style that allows the spectator to project his imagination by playing on suggestion, matter and image, the artist proposes very personal allegorical compositions, concrete enough to connect them to visible and present reality and suggestive enough to travel into a collective mythology and to resonate with ancient works.
His painting has the capacity to invent narratives while retaining its evocative power, like "Rorscharch" that he elaborates and orders to bring out images.
For several years now, he has accompanied art and science projects within the scientific and public institutions of Strasbourg (Faculty of Life Sciences, Botanical Garden, Notre-Dame Cathedral).
